How each criterion is measured
- Price: the discount to this site’s fair price, used only when at least three methods and two independent families agree; plus free cash flow divided by market value. Companies without a reliable fair price are ranked on free cash flow yield alone.
- Fund managers: among the managers this site tracks, those who opened or added to a position minus those who cut or sold, in the latest quarter at least 30 of them have filed, plus a smaller credit for how many hold more than $1 million.
- Insider buying: open-market purchases of at least $50,000 by officers and directors in the last 90 days, excluding pre-planned trades. Any purchase counts more than its size.
- Revenue growth: average yearly growth from the annual report about five years earlier to the latest one, capped at 40% so one acquisition does not dominate.
- Cash generation: free cash flow over revenue in the latest fiscal year. Margins above 60% are treated as a data problem and the company is left out.
- Low debt: total debt minus cash, divided by EBITDA, latest fiscal year. Companies without that figure are left out rather than treated as debt-free.
- Alerts: 8-K and 6-K filings in the last 180 days that report a cybersecurity incident, restructuring, material impairment, delisting notice, auditor change, bankruptcy or financials that can no longer be relied on. The alert is the filing’s item number, not a reading of the text: open the filing before drawing a conclusion.
- Banks, insurers and real estate companies are not included: their cash flow and debt do not mean the same thing as for other companies.
Annual figures come from the latest 10-K, so they can be up to a year old. Earnings releases and guidance changes are not flagged. Nothing on this page is investment advice.
